Update 1:41 p.m.
Air Force Two did not take off from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for the approximate 650-kilometer flight to New Hampshire, according to administration sources.
The trip was to be an official White House event, but the Granite Recovery Center regularly hosts Republicans on the campaign trail, and members of the Republican National Committee and the Trump re-election campaign were there to show support. "The vice president was asked to return to Washington", said a Pence office representative, Randy Gentry, in a video posted online.
In remarks to Reuters, Pence's chief of staff, Marc Short, also said the plane never left.
