Brooklyn has already been rumored to be in the market for elite free agents like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler. Durant can opt out of his contract with the Golden State Warriors on July 1. All-Star D'Angelo Russell is also a restricted free agent this summer and is expected to demand a max contract as well. But another option will be to cut Russell lose, which sees them hit over $60 million in max salary cap space that will give them an option to sign two max free agents.
Obviously the Hawks will not be making all of these picks, but this does portend one major thing about the Atlanta Hawks' future: They are still rebuilding and looking for young players to build the team around at all positions. Of course, the New York Knicks, among others, hope to prevent that from happening in what figures to be a monumental National Basketball Association offseason.
So the Knicks better make sure that they get someone this summer, to prove to their fans and the rest of the league that they are ready to win. Teams are able to go over the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, but "cap holds" for free agents make it hard to sign free agents from other teams before re-signing their own. 8, 10 and 17.

Irving averaged 23.8 points and 6.9 assists per game for the Celtics in 2018-19.
Prince, 25, averaged 13.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 55 games (47 starts) a year ago for Atlanta, slightly down from his numbers in 2017-18.
