House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's refusal to impeach President Donald Trump even after Russian Federation probe special counsel Robert Mueller made a statement about his report is "insane", a former chief ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush opined. The White House blocked McGahn, who was a key witness in Mueller's report, from testifying.
A redacted 448-page version of Mueller's report released in April concluded that Russian operatives sought to influence the USA presidential election in 2016, but it did not establish a criminal conspiracy between Trump's campaign and Russia.
While Mueller strongly prefers that his remarks be his final public utterance on this matter, arguing that the report should speak for itself, the strong impact of this limited public appearance ensures that House Committee Chairs Cummings, Nadler and Schiff will re-double their efforts to get him to testify. Many Democratic lawmakers including Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, both of whom are presidential hopefuls, are urging Congress to begin impeachment proceedings. The shipment delays would affect vehicles with high inventory levels on US dealer lots if the tariffs take effect as threatened. The White House has so far been vague about what Trump, the self-avowed "Tariff Man", expects Mexico to do to avoid the duties.
Mueller investigated whether Trump tried to obstruct his probe, but the report reached no conclusion on whether the president acted illegally.
Republicans criticized the decision to hold hearings, with North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows calling the move "another openly desperate move to resuscitate a dead collusion conspiracy".
The Agalarovs were in contact with Trump for years as he sought real estate development in Moscow, and they prompted a meeting between Russians and the campaign in June 2016 at Trump Tower with an offer to Donald Trump Jr. of "information that would incriminate Hillary Clinton".
In the Mueller report, the special counsel found many times when Trump associates had been in touch with Russians in 2016, and documented how Trump campaign officials had realized that Trump could benefit from the Russians' efforts.
Dean ultimately cooperated with prosecutors and helped bring down Nixon's presidency, though he served a prison term for obstruction of justice.
