White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Trump will bestow the award, the nation's highest civilian honour, on the golfing great in the White House Rose Garden. It is to be noted that Woods won the Masters last month, his first major title since the 2008 US Open.
Woods is not the first athlete to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump.
Woods, the 81-time PGA TOUR victor and two-time FedExCup champion, joins Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Charlie Sifford as the only TOUR players to receive the honor. The place was mobbed. "I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!"
The Trump Organization notes on its website that Nicklaus, who endorsed Trump for president, and Woods have both designed courses for the company.
The ceremony, scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, will mark the fourth time that a golfer has received the Medal of Freedom. Two thousand fans showed up as Woods walked down a 320-foot red carpet, some of them storming steel barricades to get a closer look. Trump tweeted a day after the Woods' tournament win. According to Bloomberg, Woods and Trump are teaming up to design a golf course in Dubai. Woods now has 15 career majors, three behind Nicklaus for the most all-time. The famously private and guarded Woods even revealed a personal detail about Sifford, saying the elder golf pro was "the grandpa that I never had".

The waivers, due to expire Saturday, are extended for 90 days, the State Department statement added. The Fars agency carried a similar report.
Other presidents have given the honor to athletes like track and field's Jesse Owens; college football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant; baseball's Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Babe Ruth; basketball coaches and players including John Wooden and Michael Jordan; boxing great Muhammad Ali and NASCAR racer Richard Petty.
Woods was joined at the ceremony by his mother, Kutilda; daughter, Sam Alexis, 11; son, Charlie Axel, 10; and girlfriend Erica Herman.
Trump has also struck business deals with Woods.
Established by John F. Kennedy in 1963, the honour is bestowed upon those who have made an "especially meritorious" contribution to United States security or national interests, world peace, cultural pursuits or other non-specified endeavours.
Then-President Barack Obama remarked during the official White House portraits-unveiling event for former President George W. Bush and wife Laura Bush that his predecessor had left him a "good" television sports package. He said Woods has not been one to stand up on political issues, but should have declined the award in this case.
