The zookeeper was attacked Saturday while in the outdoor tiger habitat of Sanjiv, a 7-year-old male tiger named Sanjiv.
"During the attack, the zookeeper suffered "lacerations and punctures" to the back of the head and neck".
Topeka city spokeswoman Mally Hadfield says the woman is stable and was moved Sunday to a different unit of the hospital.
The zookeeper's name has not been released.
Wiley also said that the tiger will not be euthanized for the attack.
"We are back open, our tigers are in a holding cell, but the rest of the zoo is open", said Ms Hadfield.
The zoo was shut down for about 45 minutes but has reopened.
Strong storms eyeing South Florida this evening
The line of storms moving eastward is expected to linger in the Triangle until 10 p.m. according to the National Weather Service. At least three other people have been killed in the massive thunderstorms that pounded parts of MS and Alabama on Thursday.
They say this type of attack has never happened at the zoo before, and they will use this incident in future safety protocol.
Topeka's FOX affiliate, KSNT-TV, reported that all of the zoo's tigers were removed from their public enclosures for the day. She reportedly was in critical condition, KSNT said.
He said that there are no plans to put the tiger down.
"Nothing is going to happen to our tiger", Hadfield said.
Some zoos participate in Sumatran tiger conservation programs created to save the species, but these efforts are not always successful.
"Tigers are built to be powerful animals, and somehow, our staff person made it out of this alive", Wiley said.
The zoo has cameras set up on the south side so guests can watch the four tiger cubs grow up. Sumatran tigers are critically endangered, and only about 400 remain in the wild, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
