The Maple Leafs grabbed a 3-2 lead in this best-of-seven first-round playoff series on Friday night with a slim 2-1 victory as +125 road underdogs at sportsbooks, in the fourth UNDER result on the totals through the first five games of the set.
"We got as close I've seen in a long time". "Game 7, TD Garden, Boston and Toronto", Cassidy quipped to wrap up his postgame press conference. When I was in that situation, we tied it late and won it in overtime. "We talked about getting some more traffic, some more action at the net, and I thought we did a good job with that".
It was Marchand's power play goal shortly after Rielly's strike that sparked the Bruins, and turned the game in their favor for good, as the Bruins followed up with goals by Torey Krug on the power play and Jake DeBrusk, his first of the series. "You go after it", he said Saturday after an optional skate at Scotiabank Arena.
Frederik Andersen stopped 37 shots for the Leafs, who lost to the Bruins in seven games in both 2013 and last spring, and have not advanced to the second round of the playoffs since 2004.
But the Leafs could not crack Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask and neither could they get control of the puck once Andersen was pulled for an extra attacker in the final two minutes of the game.
The veteran, battle-tested Bruins led 2-1 after the first period and had the Leafs on their heels early in the second, holding a 21-7 edge in overall shots through seven minutes.
The game-winner came in the second period, on a beauty of a rush, with Krejci setting up DeBrusk for the all-out effort to tip the centering pass past Andersen at 7:57 of the second, a goal they would need when Toronto's Auston Matthews scored to narrow the gap at 4:15 of the third. "We have to take it and we'll prepare for it now". A power play early in overtime gave Calgary a great opportunity to even the series up 2-2, but they failed to get a shot on goal. Having hit the post on an early power play, the defenceman blasted a one-timer shortside along the ice. What's more surprising - Martin Jones making 50 saves in a must-win game, or San Jose being held to under 30 shots in four whole periods of play? We're 20 minutes away from a potential Game 7.
'Your heart goes out to him': Margaret Court defends Israel Folau's comments
Raelene Castle, chief executive of Rugby Australia, said Folau had been warned in the past about his social media posts . While Folau found support from Wilson he was getting none from Wallabies vice-captain Will Genia.
The Leafs had the Bruins on the defensive for nearly all of the first 10 minutes of the game, right up until forward Tyler Ennis took a holding penalty.
"I don't know", Krug said.
In 6:55 of five-on-five ice time, the Coyle line held the advantage in shot attempts 12-3 and scoring chances 3-1. They're going to play hard. A video review showed the puck bounced off the crossbar, failing to cross the line. Up next for the current coach: Slaying those ugly Game 7 demons.
Now, with Game 6 in the books, it's time to turn to Game 7, the second Game 7 between the two teams in as many years.
"For sure, but it's always the hardest", Babcock said.
"Nothing matters about the past, so we are not going to look at anything that has happened in the past and expect it to play out tomorrow, or next game" said Marchand.
Sunday's 3 p.m. ET puck drop was something different for the Leafs, who had just one afternoon affair on the 2018-19 schedule.
