Omar, who is Muslim, provoked the contentious debate by criticizing "people who push for allegiance to a foreign country" in comments she made in a Washington D.C. coffee shop last week.
"I thought yesterday's vote by the House was disgrace", Trump said, "because the Democrats have become an anti-Israel party, they've become an anti-Jewish party, and I thought that vote was a disgrace and so did everybody else if you get an honest answer". The resolution passed 407-to-23 on Thursday, with Omar lauding its smooth sail.
Omar told Democratic House leadership earlier in the week that she was prepared to vote in favor of a resolution created to condemn her own remarks on Israel, two senior congressional aides told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.
"We are tremendously proud to be part of a body that has put forth a condemnation of all forms of bigotry including anti-Semitism, racism and white supremacy", Omar, who has repeatedly denied accusations linking her to anti-Semitism, said in a joint statement with representatives Rashida Tlaib and Andre Carson. "The Democrats have become an anti-Israel party and anti-Jewish party". "I think she has a different experience in the use of words, [and] doesn't understand that some of them are fraught with meaning".Читайте также: What happens in the end credits of 'Captain Marvel'
She continued: "Our nation is having a hard conversation and we believe this is great progress".
The resolution, initially launched as a rebuke exclusively against anti-Semitism following remarks made by Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, was later broadened to include all forms of bigotry. House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney of Wisconsin slammed it as a "sham" resolution. "I think it strengthened it".
The legislation was brought forth by lawmakers in the wake of Omar's Twitter remarks in which she stated that lobbyists at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) use financial influence to push a pro-Israel agenda among USA lawmakers.
Last march, Pelosi was pretty certain of the president's motives and intentions when she called an order on transgender military personnel a "hateful ban" that "is purpose-built to humiliate our courageous transgender members of the military who serve with honor and dignity".
