India can not have a dialogue with Pakistan unless the neighbouring country takes action against terror groups operating from its soil, External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj has said. "This has prevented action by the global community to designate the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a proscribed and active terrorist organization which has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February 2019", said a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The United States, Britain and France asked the Security Council's Islamic State and al Qaeda sanctions committee to subject JeM leader Masood Azhar to an arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze.
China, a veto-wielding permanent member of the Security Council, and an "all-weather ally" of Pakistan had blocked India's proposal from being adopted by the Sanctions Committee even in 2009 and 2016.
Pakistan-based Muslim cleric Masood Azhar founded the group after he was released by India in 1999, one of three men set free in exchange for the crew and passengers of an Indian Airlines plane hijacked and flown to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. "Grateful to the many states - big & small - who in unprecedented numbers, joined as co-sponsors of the effort", Syed Akbaruddin, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, in a tweet said.
Did Le'Veon Bell get the contract he was hoping for?
King noted the New York Jets are the favorite to land Bell, but added Washington and Miami are possible destinations too. With Anthony Barr choosing to re-sign with the Vikings, the Jets had some additional cap space to offer Bell.
Sources have told newswires there is a strong case for designating Mr Azhar as a terrorist and have hinted that they may pursue "other avenues" if China continued to stand in the way. "That is why we put forward the technical hold", Mr. Lu said.
During the Pulwama attack, Gokhale had briefed the media during which he had said there was credible information information that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror group was attempting suicide attacks at various parts of the country, as a result a pre-emptive strike became important and India struck the biggest camp of JeM at Balakot. She had said at the trilateral meeting with Russian and Chinese foreign ministers that Pakistan's inaction on JeM had triggered the airstrikes. The construction of the $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has further strengthened the ties between the two nations.
China put a technical hold on a proposal in the UN Security Council to ban Masood Azhar just before the close of the deadline.
Recently, China's Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou travelled to Pakistan and held talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other officials. This gives China the power to quash the resolution.
