The wicket-keeper batsman blasted a 43-ball 84 to lay the foundation of New Zealand's 219/6 against India at the Westpac Stadium. With the crack opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan departing within the Powerplay, the chase became a hard one and India were all out for 139 in 19.2 overs.
The second T20 takes place in Auckland on Friday.
