In the midst of a government shutdown over securing our border, Romney chose to side with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi by attacking President Donald Trump in an op-ed in The Washington Post instead of offering his opinion about how to solve our illegal immigration crisis and end the shutdown. He said, "Sen. Rand Paul considers President Trump a friend, but beyond that, he is thrilled with his conservative policies, which have included historic tax cuts, massive regulation cuts, the appointment of constitutional jurists, and implementing an "America First" foreign policy by focusing on America and not every problem around the world".
Some Trump policies are acceptable, but its is the president's character - or lack of it - that has hurt the United States, Romney wrote. He appears to have more room with GOP voters in Utah to take on the president. "And it is in this province where the incumbent's shortfall has been most glaring".
"Would much prefer that Mitt focus on Border Security and so many other things where he can be helpful", Trump said in a tweet.
McDaniel fired back at her uncle on Wednesday morning, simply referring to him as an "incoming Republican freshman senator" without noting their family connection. "I hope not", Trump wrote. Question will be, is he a Flake? Trump endorsed him in his Senate bid previous year.
In the op-ed piece, Romney noted he had not supported Trump as the Republican Party's nominee in 2016.
"It is well known that Donald Trump was not my choice for the Republican presidential nomination". "Nor do I think that the Romney type of establishment, big government Republicanism is popular enough to win a general election".
Australia vs India - 4th Test Match Preview & Prediction
Ishant Sharma , who was excellent in the previous Test, was excluded though there was no clarity on why that was. India will be missing middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma, who has returned home after the birth of his daughter.
Rory Cooper, a GOP strategist who helped lead the "Never Trump PAC" during the 2016 Republican primary, said publicly criticizing the president makes Republican votes back home unhappy and earns the ire of the president. "When he won the election, I hoped he would rise to the occasion".
The two-time former presidential candidate acknowledged that Trump's policies were in line with mainstream Republicans, but criticized Trump's character and accused him of dividing the American people. He said Trump told him: "We're going to have a better deal for them. But I know what my principles are, what I think is right for the country", Romney said.
"I think the president is very honest when he says he wants to secure the border, and how you get there is a real question".
Apparently, Romney wants Trump to be a punching bag.
"Jealously is a drink best served warm and Romney just proved it".
Brushing aside the fact that Trump often personally attacks and insults other politicians, Paul said Romney's criticism of the president's character was a "big mistake" and an attempt by the new senator to present himself as "holier than thou".
But conservative commentator Bill Kristol, a frequent Trump critic, tweeted that Romney's op-ed confirmed that "Trump's dominance over the GOP, pretty complete until now, can no longer be taken for granted".
