He noted that Iranian youths will make efforts to resolve the faults and successfully launch another satellite.
Iran, which considers its space program a matter of national pride, has said its space vehicle launches and missile tests were not violations and would continue.
"In defiance of the worldwide community & UNSCR 2231, Iran's regime fired off a space launch vehicle today", Pompeo tweeted.
He said the launch violates a 2015 UN Security Council Resolution urging Iran not to work on ballistic missile technology for eight years.

If it were a "civilian project with a purely scientific aim", and Iran is not going to ask anyone permission for such projects, said the foreign Ministry spokesman.
Nevertheless, Rouhani on Monday confirmed that Iran was planning to send two domestically-built satellites into orbit.
