A jury found Manafort guilty of eight of 18 counts of tax and bank fraud in a federal trial in NY on August 21.
It could also hamper Mueller's ability to turn an insider against Trump in the investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Manafort had been meeting with the special counsel's office since he pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy against the USA and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Manafort denied the accusations in the same document.
Moments later, he continued his Twitter assault on the federal prosecutor.
The judge in DC District Court who received the update Monday night has not yet weighed in, and a sentencing for Manafort's guilty plea has not yet been scheduled. They say they won't do that now. In fact, it was so obvious that Judge T.S. Ellis threatened to throw out all charges against Manafort back in May over the special counsel's role in prosecuting these specific charges.
Manafort's lawyers were just as plain.
For their part, Manafort's attorneys said he believes he has offered "useful information" and doesn't agree with the government assertion that he breached the plea agreement.

The company also claims that Neil Armstrong's first words were through a Plantronics headset, raising the brand value. Accessory maker Logitech is reportedly mulling the purchase of headset and Bluetooth earpiece maker Plantronics .
"At some point, Manafort will be sentenced, and at that point there will be a prolonged hearing where there will be witnesses called and information revealed and we will learn that information", Cevallos said. The terms of the plea agreement waive any right to retract Manafort's guilty pleas, so he's on the hook no matter what.
Napolitano said it's very uncommon for a defendant to lie to prosecutors in this context, adding Manafort is "really at their mercy".
But things between the special counsel and Manafort have reportedly been rocky for a while. "Manafort had to be deemed so far from the truth that the special counsel didn't feel he could be brought around to useful testimony in further sessions". The special counsel team's court filing provided no details about the prevarication. He still faces a separate sentencing from a Virginia case where he was convicted of bank and tax fraud.
It was not immediately clear what Manafort had lied about. With a circumstance like this, only one side of the deal gets torn up - and that's the prosecutors' promises of mercy, they said in the filing Monday.
He already faces up to five years in prison on the charges in his plea agreement.
Manafort is in jail awaiting sentence, which both sides now say there is no reason to delay.
Trump is, without mentioning names, seemingly playing Manfort and others off to be victims and "heroes" for "refusing to lie", while also calling Mueller "conflicted" and saying he has "gone rogue".
