Both the Associated Press and ESPN confirmed the move on Wednesday citing league sources who requested anonymity. Bryant spent the majority of his career in Dallas playing on the outside, though he played more snaps than usual in the slot previous year.
However, his professional reputation has been marred at times by public confrontations with coaches and teammates during games and practices. Last season, the 30-year-old caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns for the Cowboys. He signed his last Cowboys contract right after that, but has not approached that level of production since - a central reason Dallas released him in April.
Not long after his release from Dallas, Bryant turned down a three-year contract offer from the Baltimore Ravens, according to several media outlets.
New Orleans (7-1), which has won seven straight and leads the NFC South, didn't necessarily need another receiver.
Bryant will have to know his place in the Saints' pecking order, but playing with a quarterback like Brees should help that.
Ted Cruz Defeats Beto O'Rourke in Texas
But O'Rourke visited all 254 Texas counties and often drew larger-than-expected crowds, even in fiercely conservative areas. With the win, Cruz kept alive his hopes of mounting a second presidential run once Trump leaves the White House.
For an idea on the lack of wide receiver production outside of Thomas, Ted Ginn Jr., who is on injured reserve with a knee injury, hasn't played since Week 4, yet his 22 targets still rank as the second-most among the wideouts behind Thomas. Just two years ago New Orleans finished top three in all of these categories, and now that they have.
Bryant's return to the National Football League with the Saints means he could play against his former club in a few weeks.
New Orleans also has two games remaining against division rival Carolina (6-2).
He'll get the opportunity to play against his former team later this month, as the Saints are scheduled to visit the Cowboys in Week 13.
Those numbers may not look as good as what fans have come to expect from Bryant over the years, but they are still a solid addition for an already dynamic Saints' offense.
