The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia has expressed his condolences to the family and relatives of Jamal Khashoggi, according to a report carried by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
During an interview with Fox News, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said: "These things do happen". There obviously was a tremendous mistake made, and what compounded the mistake was the attempt to try to cover it up.
Turkish police believe The Washington Post columnist was murdered and dismembered shortly after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2; Turkish media have reported that a 15-man hit team was sent from Riyadh specifically for the assignment.
Although Turkey has so far stopped short of officially blaming Saudi Arabia for the killing, investigators have said they have audio and video evidence which shows Mr Khashoggi, was killed by a team of Saudi agents inside the consulate. "That is unacceptable in any government", al-Jubeir said on Sunday.
He said he would "love" it if the Crown Prince was not responsible for the murder.
Those people were later arrested or had their social-media accounts shut down.
This is not the first time Saudi Arabia suffered from a political crisis, "this incident will pass".
