In addition to the new black colour, a recent leak revealed that the Surface Pro 6 will be an iterative update with a minor spec bump. Both the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Laptop 2 will be pre-installed in the consumer versions of Windows 10 in S-mode. Even the design of the Surface Pro 6 is going to resemble last year's model. Unfortunately, the device won't get USB Type-C ports will supposedly incorporate a mini-Display port, the Surface Connector, and the normal USB-A port.
The 2018 version of the Surface Laptop will likely appear with hardware very similar to its predecessor, much like Surface Pro.
Black Surface accidentally leaked by Microsoft
Microsoft apparently plans to lower the entry price of the Surface Pro 6.
Since then, Microsoft abandoned that color scheme and made the platinum finish the "signature color" for Surface. This move would give the new Pro a bit more oomph at every level - the new Core m3-8100Y offers a maximum turbo clock of 3.4GHz as opposed to the 2.6GHz on the older m3-7Y30, while the 8th Gen Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs typically offered higher core counts than the 7th Generation CPUs the Surface Pro 2017 relied on.
The lack of ports is something you're either willing to live with or not, but the ongoing lack of USB-C support is just laziness at this point. The good news is that both devices will be cheaper than before. Microsoft previously said this Summer that the LTE variant would be available later this year, and the Redmond giant might want to take advantage on the upcoming holiday season to sell more units of its most affordable Surface model. We've seen Microsoft release a growing number of Surface accessories over the years, and we hope that Microsoft can still surprise us today.
China tensions spilling over into the military arena
Beijing sees Taiwan as part of its territory awaiting unification, and is deeply suspicious of the island's relations with the US. In May, US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis disinvited China from participating in a multinational naval exercise in the Pacific.
