A federal prosecutor says the shooting at a Kentucky grocery store that left two people dead is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
Officials have identified the male suspect as Gregory Alan Bush.
Bush appeared in court Thursday for arraignment and his bond was set at $5 million, according to court records. The parents told police in January 2009 that Bush punched his 78-year-old father in the face and grabbed his 74-year-old mother by the neck "and picked her up off the ground".
The report says Bush repeatedly unplugged the phone so they couldn't call police and fled the home with a handgun.
Police wrote in the report that Bush's parents were "terrified of (his) unpredictable behavior".
A shooting at a suburban Louisville, Ky., Krogers store was apparently racially motivated, according to what one witness said. "Federal investigators are supporting local law enforcement and examining this matter from the perspective of federal criminal law, which includes potential civil rights violations such as hate crimes".
He then reholstered his firearm and proceeded to the parking lot where he shot and killed Jones. Many more officers converged on the scene and made the arrest just a few hundred yards (meters) from the store on Wednesday afternoon.
Bush was charged with two counts of murder and 10 counts of felony wanton endangerment. No one was hurt in this final confrontation, Jeffersontown Police Chief Sam Rogers said on Wednesday.
Who's the $1.5 billion Mega Millions victor ? We may never know
With more than $1.5 billion, an exceedingly generous victor could shower roughly $307 on each of the state's five million people. The victor has 180 days to collect the jackpot. "We would offer them free milk and cookies, but I doubt they need it now".
A local NBC television affiliate reported that a body was seen covered in a white sheet in the parking lot of a Kroger supermarket. "You got a black church then a black couple, so the mission to me was saying that before this day is over with, somebody black is going to die", Tyler said. "Whites don't shoot whites".
Stallard, 69, and Vickie Lee Jones, 67, were black.
Stallard is the father of Kellie Watson, who serves in the mayor's office as his chief racial equity officer.

Had he arrived only an hour and 15 minutes earlier, he would have found 70 people getting ready to leave the church's mid-week services, church administrator Billy Williams told the station. "Can't we all agree that that is unacceptable?"
A motive for the shooting remained under investigation Thursday, police said.
"An arrest record from May 2009 says Bush was in a family court hearing when he became "irate" and shouted obscenities and threats at his ex-wife". When deputies tried to subdue him, he fought off attempts to handcuff him and he punched a deputy twice. He has been charged with two counts of murder. He's recorded driving out of the lot while an officer chases after him on foot.
Customer Eric Deacon witnessed the shootout and described Bush's opponent as "an African American gentleman".
