The strategy came as the FBI conducts a limited investigation into allegations of sexual assault by Kavanaugh but with great uncertainty about whether the probe will unearth anything conclusive by the end of the week, when Republicans are pressing for a vote. He suggested it was troubling that people were found "automatically guilty" and had to prove their innocence. But now, you're guilty until proven innocent. Almost all the Democrats were likely to vote against Kavanaugh even before the allegation surfaced.
Key Republican senators have called the White House in the last two days to make clear that they expect a fulsome investigation as the FBI reviews allegations against Kavanaugh.
Supreme Court nominations require Senate confirmation. Swetnick said in a sworn statement and in a television interview that she was gang-raped at a party, and that she witnessed Kavanaugh's presence at similar parties where other gang rapes took place.
"You can be somebody that was flawless your entire life and somebody could accuse you of something. and you're automatically guilty".
What did Mr Trump say?
Speaking Tuesday night at a rally in Southaven, Miss., Trump attacked the credibility of Christine Blasey Ford, who last week testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that Kavanaugh drunkenly assaulted her during a high school party more than 30 years ago.
"What neighbourhood was it in?"
"'I don't know. I don't know.' 'Upstairs? I don't know.'" At this point the crowd went wild. I don't know - but I had one beer.
The fact that Trump mocked Ford at a political rally was "not right", Flake told NBC's Today Show.
"And a man's life is in tatters, a man's life is shattered, his wife is shattered, his daughters - who are attractive, incredible young kids", he said.
Chinese movie star Fan Bingbing hit with huge tax evasion fines
The women were together at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but a release date for the film has not been announced . Fan appeared in the X-Men and Iron Man film franchises and has more than 62 million followers online in China .
And now that the sexual-misconduct allegations are proving to be riddled with holes, along comes charges that Kavanaugh is a problem drinker - or at least was in high school and college.
Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader from NY, says the Senate should be briefed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at least 24 hours before an initial procedural vote on Kavanaugh's nomination.
"I mean really, yes, it deserves a lot of laughter", Clinton told an audience at the Atlantic Festival. "He's frustrated", Graham said of the president's comments.
Flake voted to approve Kavanaugh in the committee's vote on Friday that sent the nomination to the full Senate, but he also insisted the FBI investigate the sexual misconduct allegations.
Responding to those concerns, Trump said at a press conference he wants the FBI to do a "comprehensive" investigation and "it wouldn't bother me at all" if agents pursued accusations made by the three women.
"A vote against Kavanaugh is a "yes" vote for more of these despicable tactics being used time and time again in the future", said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, on the Senate floor Tuesday.
"'What neighbourhood was it in?' I don't know".
"I don't have all the answers, and I don't remember as much as I would like to", she said.
The FBI has finished an interview with Chris Garrett, a high school friend of Kavanaugh. Ford has alleged that Judge was in the room when Kavanaugh assaulted her.
He had previously called her a "very credible witness". Chuck Grassley repeated his request for notes from Ford's therapy sessions, details of her communications with The Washington Post and any recordings of her taking a lie detector test. "They've been trying to destroy Judge Kavanaugh since the very first second he was announced because they know Judge Kavanaugh will follow the Constitution as written".
